Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a day out in Al Muzahimiyah where the park is situated. A blend of craggy rock formations and sweeping dunes, the park is a stark contrast to the modern-day city life in Riyadh.

The desert valley is home to one of Saudi Arabia's most spectacular natural wonders, Lake Kharrarah or the "Lake of Liquid Light." During the rainy season, the lake, which is nestled among the red-hued hills, is filled with water that's deep enough for a refreshing swim. The Hifna Waterfalls can be found after a short drive alongside the lake. Water gushing down from the arid sand dunes is truly a sight to behold for those lucky enough to witness it.

During the dry season, the valley transforms into a lush green pasture that attracts a variety of birds and wildlife. The warm weather also attracts picnic-goers to hang out by the lake under the shade of the acacia trees, enjoy some barbecue or watch the sun as it sets on the horizon.

Aside from being a perfect spot to chill and spend time with the family, Al Kharrarah is also popular amongst thrill-seekers. Go dune bashing, quad bike riding, sandboarding, kite flying, or hiking to the highest sand dunes, where you'll be rewarded by the view of the valley and the Tuwaiq Escarpment, another one of the region's best-known landmarks.
