Learn about the rich Gabonese culinary culture in a fun and delicious cooking workshop with a local host. Gabonese food is a delectable blend of African flavors and French influences and includes staples such as rice and cassava. Meat includes chicken and bush meat such as antelope, wild boar, and even monkey. Fish is also eaten throughout the whole country, especially near the coast.
Fresh and locally produced vegetables, as well as imported ones, are made into stews, together with red hot peppers and peanuts. Gabonese are strong at grilling fish and chicken and you should also try some of the local brochettes on the streets. Chicken nyembwé is one of the most popular dishes and is made of ground palm nuts, similar to poulet Mwambe from Congo. Other specialties are cassava leaves, fish stews, and many more.
Try something different during your trip as you learn to cook mouthwatering authentic Gabonese food and feast on it with your group. Start your day by going to the market with your host via public transport to make sure you're doing it the way locals do it almost daily. Once you have everything needed, head to your host's house where you will be taught some techniques on how to create the dish. You will then share the food with your host and the rest of the group, exchanging stories and getting a glimpse of each others' colorful culture and traditions.
