Itinerary

Day 1 - Nairobi

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Your local guide will pick you up at the airport, then make your way to the hotel for check in. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure. Of course, if your family is just ready to get started, begin your adventure and see the greatest places to visit in Nairobi. The world-famous David Sheldrick elephant orphanage is the ideal introduction to playful baby elephants and cheeky young rhinos, who are all cared for by dedicated step-parents. Alternatively, visit the Giraffe Centre, where you may even feed these lovely and gentle creatures.

Day 2-4 - Nairobi - Laikipia

Get up early to catch your Safarilink flight to Laikipia, a magnificent county in the heart of Kenya. For your first day of serious animal spotting, try your hand at animal bingo, keep a watch out for lion cubs clambering all over their snoozing parents, and learn everything about the creepy crawlies that may appear small, but help the entire ecosystem. You will be staying at El Karama Eco Lodge for this leg of your safari, which enjoys nothing more than helping families reconnect with nature. Your guides will keep the fun going with a variety of fun and instructive activities customized to your children's interests and ages. Their skilled guides are knowledgeable about everything from termite clay art to tracking footprints.

Day 5-7 - Laikipia - Borana Wildlife Conservancy

Transfer to Borana Wildlife Conservancy, a prime example of 'Lion King' country. In fact, it is home to the real-life 'Pride Rock,' which is supposed to have inspired the film location. Here, game drives are designed with children's ages and attention spans in mind, and the guides are adept at keeping their little assistants on the lookout for the Big Five, as well as potentially a Pumba or two (his sidekick Timon – a meerkat - is not actually native to Kenya).

Young guests will be given a safari-themed activity booklet to fill out and learn from, and days can be spent splashing around in natural springs, fishing for tilapia or catfish in the rock pools beneath Pride Rock, visiting the farm, meeting other children at the local school, or even going on an exciting bush walk around the lodge grounds. All of Borana's guides have children of their own and enjoy spending time with children, so parents can unwind and spend some time alone in the spa or by the pool.

Day 8-9 - Masai Mara National Reserve

Spend the next two days with exciting game drives through the Masai Mara National Reserve.  One of the greatest wildlife reserves in Africa, the Masai Mara National Reserve is renowned for its exceptional populations of cheetah, leopard, lion, and the iconic African bush elephant. A rich variety of birds, including immigrants, are abundant in the area. Another chance to see the famed Big Five and even cheetahs, it provides a completely different experience for guests because all game expeditions are led by Maasai warriors. The warriors will welcome you and your family into their magnificent, wildlife-rich abode, where they will share generations of knowledge, mythology, and local customs.

Families with children will especially enjoy participating in the Warriors Academy, where Maasai and Samburu Moran (warriors) teach fascinating survival skills and put you through your paces as junior warriors. You will learn traditional methods of tracking animals (while trailing a real-life elephant or leopard), how to establish a bush camp, traditional ways of life, and how to make tools from natural resources.

Day 10-13 - Diani Beach

Spend the next couple of days relaxing on the absolutely stunning beach. Following a week of wilderness exploration, it will be time for some rest and leisure. Head towards Diani Beach, where a mild breeze blows in from the Indian Ocean and cools you down as you relax on the beach or by the pool. Diani Beach is a sanctuary for water sports such as snorkeling and paddle-boarding for those who still have some energy.

You may also explore the iridescent reef beneath turquoise waters aboard a Ngalawa, a traditional fishing boat, or paddle alongside dolphins and turtles. Visit the beautiful Kaya Forest or the Colobus Monkey Trust for something a little different. Tennis and horseback riding can also be arranged.

Day 14 - Diani Beach - Nairobi

Take a flight back to Nairobi. You will then transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward destination.
