Itinerary

Day 1 - Moshi - Machame Camp

Meet and greet your local guide at the designated pick up location, then head towards the Kilimanjaro National Park’s Machame Gate to start your trekking journey. You will pass through the Machame Village, which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain, then continue through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge. The trail can be muddy and slippery at lower elevations. Continue for a short distance until you reach the Machame Camp, where you will stay for the night.

Day 2 - Machame Camp - Shira Camp

Depart the rain forest glades after breakfast and proceed on an ascending trail that crosses the valley over a steep rocky ridge. The trail now heads west along a river gorge until you reach the Shira Camp.

Day 3 - Shira Camp - Lava Tower - Barranco Camp

Continue east from the Shira Plateau along a ridge, passing the intersection towards Kibo's peak. Your path then gradually shifts to the south-east, towards the Lava Tower called "Shark's Tooth". Reach the second junction shortly after the tower, which leads to the Arrow Glacier. Afterwards, head down to the Barranco Camp. Although you finish the day at roughly the same elevation as you started, this day is critical for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.

Day 4 - Barranco Camp - Barafu Camp

Continue your ascent after a good rest. While trekking across the alpine desert on the way to Barafu Camp, a portion of the mountain top may be seen. After a 5-6 hour trek, you will arrive at Barafu Camp, where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 5 - Barafu Camp - Uhuru Peak - Mweka Camp

Wake up just after midnight to begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. Climb through the steep scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim in a northwesterly direction. This is the most mentally and physically demanding part of the journey. At Stella Point, take a little break and be rewarded with the most spectacular sunrise you're ever likely to witness. You may encounter snow on your ascent to the summit from Stella Point. When you reach Uhuru Peak, you have achieved the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the African continent!

Begin your descent from the summit by heading straight down to Mweka Camp, stopping for lunch at Barafu Camp. On the loose gravel going down, you may need gaiters and trekking poles. Arrive at Mweka Camp, where you will spend the night.

Day 6 - Mweka Camp - Moshi

Make your way back to the Mweka Gate, where you will receive your Summit Certificate. Then, return to Moshi, where your climbing adventure comes to an end.
